Family and portrait photos among the red rock of Snow Canyon

Snow Canyon family photos

Red and white sandstone, glowing golden light and plenty of room for little ones to run. Snow Canyon is a St. George family favorite for good reason.

Red rock, real moments

Your family against one of Utah's most beautiful backdrops

Snow Canyon State Park sits just outside St. George near Ivins, with towering red and white sandstone, sandy trails and black lava rock.

It's one of my favorite places to photograph families. Kids can climb, explore and be themselves while I capture the giggles and the snuggles in between. The colors are rich and warm, and at golden hour the whole canyon glows.

Family sessions from $225.

Good to know

Planning your session

Best time of day

Golden hour, the hour before sunset, gives soft light and warm red rock. Summer sessions are best at sunrise or right before sunset to beat the heat.

What to wear

Soft neutrals, creams, rust, olive and dusty blue look beautiful against red rock. Avoid bright red or orange that blends into the sandstone.

Park entry

Snow Canyon is a Utah state park and charges a per-vehicle day-use fee. Check the park's website for current fees and hours.

Bring the kids' favorite things

A snack, a favorite toy or a little bribe goes a long way. I keep things playful so everyone has fun.
